Multiple sources are reporting that a man was shot and killed by an NYPD sergeant last night at the intersection of West 9th St. and Hamilton Ave.
According to the New York Post and Gothamist, the bust was part of an anti-prostitution initiative called “Losing Proposition.” An undercover officer was propositioned from a car carrying four men at the corner of Huntington and Henry Streets. When the officer attempted to pull the car over one man exited the car and fled. Two cops, from the 76th Precinct, chased after him and caught up with him at West 9th Street and Hamilton, in the shadow of the Gowanus Expressway.
After a struggle, the man pointed his gun at the cops — allegedly a 9mm Kel-Tec semi-automatic – and the sergeant fired once, striking the unidentified man in the head. Whether the incident occurred on the Carroll Gardens or Red Hook side of the expressway is not clear.
The police recovered the gun and took the three other people in the car in for questioning. The suspect’s name has not been released.
